Wings

If you ever wondered what was in the box standing at the wall with the
big painting on it - well, here is the answer: All skins for Empennage
and Wings have been stored there. But now (after the tank skins were
removed) it's almost empty with only the bottom wing skins remaining. |

The ribs have been inserted. Each tank will hold more than 110 liters
gas (not kerosene - unless I install a diesel engine). |
Simon my godson helped me to rivet nutplates to the tank attach brackets.
I admired his patience and dedication, not bad for a seven years old boy! |
Max helped me with the first session with "Sticky Stuff" aka Proseal.
This is a dreaded glue to make the tanks leak-proof (which most peoble
consider to be a good thing). The problem is only that it sticks
on ANYTHING and EVERYWHERE! But Max keeps cool... |
The problem with building the tanks is that Proseal (that sticky stuff)
and cameras are not compatible. Therefore there are no pictures of the
really messy process. Here on the left you see one preliminary shoot
with the vent line installed. |
Here I am closing the right tank - I hope it will pass the leak test too
in a few days... |
Here's a picture of the leak test. After a week the balloon had almost
the same size. |
The same procedure for the left tank... |
...and the next day it didn't look very promising! Fortunately I had
only overlooked the drain valve, which had only been inserted
finger-thight. After I screwed it down the balloon was still inflated
after a month - and my tanks completed! |
